Principles of Exercise in the Pilates Method
As was already mentioned, the foundation of Pilates exercise is the proper working of the center of power and proper breathing. This alone, however, would not be enough to do Pilates. The author of the method, J.H. Pilates, placed great emphasis on other aspects of movement as well.
Precision and control also belong to the main principles of Pilates. Bear in mind that during exercise, the final phase of an exercise is not the only important one (how deeply you bow down, for instance), but that the entire execution is important. Equally important for Pilates is that quality has precedence over quantity. The number of repetitions of one exercise is therefore relatively low (5 to 10), at the same time that precision, concentration, and fluency are intensified.
