Powerhouse

You will hear this term in Pilates lessons very often. As the name itself suggests, it refers to a region from which the strength needed to do the exercises emanates. To put it simply, this center of power is found in the lower part of the belly, the region below the belt. You must activate it during exercise with the help of the deep muscles of the belly. Every exercise in Pilates begins with the activation of the powerhouse and all subsequent movements emanate from this firm center of your body.

Your initial lessons will predominantly involve training how to engage the center of power together with proper breathing.
